Les traces de ces gla\u00adcia\u00adtions se trouvent donc prin\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adle\u00adment dans les s\u00e9di\u00adments des val\u00adl\u00e9es sur\u00adcreu\u00ads\u00e9es et ne sont acces\u00adsibles qu\u2019au moyen de cam\u00adpagnes de carot\u00adtage com\u00adplexes. Cer\u00adtains de ces s\u00e9di\u00adments ont pu \u00eatre dat\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019aide de tech\u00adniques de lumi\u00adnes\u00adcence \u00e0 envi\u00adron 200\u2019000 ans, mais l\u2019\u00e2ge des s\u00e9di\u00adments gla\u00adciaires les plus pro\u00adfonds et le moment du sur\u00adcreu\u00adse\u00adment asso\u00adci\u00e9 aux gla\u00adcia\u00adtions les plus impor\u00adtantes res\u00adtent tou\u00adte\u00adfois tota\u00adle\u00adment incon\u00adnus.\n<p>Dans le cadre de ce pro\u00adjet (2024\u20132028), nous uti\u00adli\u00adsons les s\u00e9di\u00adments gla\u00adciaires pi\u00e9\u00adg\u00e9s dans les grottes du Jura pour ajou\u00adter des contraintes spa\u00adtio-tem\u00adpo\u00adrelles aux prin\u00adci\u00adpales gla\u00adcia\u00adtions alpines. Les s\u00e9di\u00adments clas\u00adtiques com\u00adpo\u00ads\u00e9s de sable gros\u00adsier, de galets et de cailloux pro\u00adve\u00adnant des Alpes pen\u00adnines (quart\u00adzites, ser\u00adpen\u00adtines, dio\u00adrites, etc.) ont p\u00e9n\u00e9\u00adtr\u00e9 dans les grottes en asso\u00adcia\u00adtion avec le ruis\u00adsel\u00adle\u00adment gla\u00adciaire et enre\u00adgistrent ain\u00adsi le moment o\u00f9 un gla\u00adcier \u00e9tait suf\u00adfi\u00adsam\u00adment proche pour d\u00e9ver\u00adser ses eaux dans les r\u00e9seaux de grottes. Nous pro\u00adpo\u00adsons ici une approche mul\u00adti\u00adm\u00e9\u00adtho\u00addo\u00adlo\u00adgique ax\u00e9e sur des inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtions sur le ter\u00adrain, des exp\u00e9\u00adriences de trans\u00adport s\u00e9di\u00admen\u00adtaire et la data\u00adtion par enfouis\u00adse\u00adment \u00e0 l\u2019aide de nucl\u00e9ides cos\u00admo\u00adg\u00e9\u00adniques afin de d\u00e9ter\u00admi\u00adner com\u00adment et quand ces clastes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trans\u00adpor\u00adt\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Des rele\u00adv\u00e9s g\u00e9o\u00admor\u00adpho\u00adlo\u00adgiques d\u00e9taill\u00e9s four\u00adni\u00adront des infor\u00adma\u00adtions sur l\u2019\u00e9\u00advo\u00adlu\u00adtion sp\u00e9\u00adl\u00e9o\u00adg\u00e9\u00adn\u00e9\u00adtique et le contexte s\u00e9di\u00admen\u00adtaire afin de com\u00adprendre l\u2019his\u00adtoire du trans\u00adport des clastes indi\u00advi\u00adduels \u00e0 l\u2019in\u00adt\u00e9\u00adrieur des sys\u00adt\u00e8mes de grottes \u00e0 plu\u00adsieurs niveaux. Notre inter\u00adpr\u00e9\u00adta\u00adtion s\u2019ap\u00adpuie\u00adra sur des exp\u00e9\u00adriences de sur\u00adveillance in situ visant \u00e0 d\u00e9ter\u00admi\u00adner la contrainte de cisaille\u00adment cri\u00adtique n\u00e9ces\u00adsaire \u00e0 la remo\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion des clastes dans un envi\u00adron\u00adne\u00adment caver\u00adni\u00adcole com\u00adplexe. Nous uti\u00adli\u00adse\u00adrons la data\u00adtion par enfouis\u00adse\u00adment 10Be\/26Al pour d\u00e9ter\u00admi\u00adner quand les s\u00e9di\u00adments de la grotte se sont d\u00e9po\u00ads\u00e9s. Cette tech\u00adnique est prin\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adle\u00adment connue dans le cadre d\u2019\u00e9\u00adtudes anthro\u00adpo\u00adlo\u00adgiques et est cou\u00adram\u00adment uti\u00adli\u00ads\u00e9e pour d\u00e9ter\u00admi\u00adner les taux d\u2019in\u00adci\u00adsion flu\u00adviale. Notre pro\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion consiste tou\u00adte\u00adfois \u00e0 l\u2019ap\u00adpli\u00adquer pour la pre\u00admi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 la recons\u00adtruc\u00adtion de l\u2019\u00e9\u00adten\u00addue des gla\u00adciers, ce qui n\u2019est pos\u00adsible qu\u2019en rai\u00adson du contraste litho\u00adlo\u00adgique unique entre la source des clastes et leur site de d\u00e9p\u00f4t. Les \u00e2ges d\u2019en\u00adfouis\u00adse\u00adment seront com\u00adpl\u00e9\u00adt\u00e9s par la data\u00adtion OSL des s\u00e9di\u00adments plus r\u00e9cents asso\u00adci\u00e9s au refou\u00adle\u00adment gla\u00adciaire, et la data\u00adtion U\/Th four\u00adni\u00adra les \u00e2ges mini\u00admaux \u00e0 par\u00adtir des sp\u00e9\u00adl\u00e9o\u00adth\u00e8mes englo\u00adbant les d\u00e9p\u00f4ts gla\u00adciaires.<\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e2ges abso\u00adlus obte\u00adnus dans le cadre de ce pro\u00adjet four\u00adni\u00adront des infor\u00adma\u00adtions fon\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtales et actuel\u00adle\u00adment inexis\u00adtantes sur le moment o\u00f9 les gla\u00adciers des Alpes \u00e9taient suf\u00adfi\u00adsam\u00adment impor\u00adtants pour enva\u00adhir et m\u00eame recou\u00advrir les mon\u00adtagnes du Jura. Nos don\u00adn\u00e9es pr\u00e9\u00adli\u00admi\u00adnaires sug\u00adg\u00e8rent que cela a pu se pro\u00adduire non seule\u00adment au Pl\u00e9is\u00adto\u00adc\u00e8ne moyen, mais aus\u00adsi au Pl\u00e9is\u00adto\u00adc\u00e8ne inf\u00e9\u00adrieur, pour lequel il n\u2019existe aucune car\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphie des affleu\u00adre\u00adments dans le Jura. Est-ce parce que les gla\u00adciers ne sont pas all\u00e9s aus\u00adsi loin ou parce que les s\u00e9di\u00adments ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9ro\u00add\u00e9s par la suite lors de gla\u00adcia\u00adtions plus r\u00e9centes&nbsp;? Quoi qu\u2019il en soit, notre pro\u00adjet don\u00adne\u00adra acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des archives inex\u00adploi\u00adt\u00e9es, pr\u00e9\u00adser\u00adv\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re unique dans les s\u00e9di\u00adments des grottes, et, en les com\u00adpa\u00adrant avec la chro\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgie connue du Decken\u00adschot\u00adter, contri\u00adbue\u00adra de mani\u00e8re signi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtive \u00e0 d\u00e9ter\u00admi\u00adner quand les pre\u00admi\u00e8res grandes gla\u00adcia\u00adtions alpines ont eu lieu. Les traces de ces glaciations se trouvent donc principalement dans les s\\u00e9diments des vall\\u00e9es surcreus\\u00e9es et ne sont accessibles qu'au moyen de campagnes de carottage complexes. Certains de ces s\\u00e9diments ont pu \\u00eatre dat\\u00e9s \\u00e0 l'aide de techniques de luminescence \\u00e0 environ 200'000 ans, mais l'\\u00e2ge des s\\u00e9diments glaciaires les plus profonds et le moment du surcreusement associ\\u00e9 aux glaciations les plus importantes restent toutefois totalement inconnus.\\n<br \/>\\n<br \/>\\nDans le cadre de ce projet (2024-2028), nous utilisons les s\\u00e9diments glaciaires pi\\u00e9g\\u00e9s dans les grottes du Jura pour ajouter des contraintes spatio-temporelles aux principales glaciations alpines. Les s\\u00e9diments clastiques compos\\u00e9s de sable grossier, de galets et de cailloux provenant des Alpes pennines (quartzites, serpentines, diorites, etc.) ont p\\u00e9n\\u00e9tr\\u00e9 dans les grottes en association avec le ruissellement glaciaire et enregistrent ainsi le moment o\\u00f9 un glacier \\u00e9tait suffisamment proche pour d\\u00e9verser ses eaux dans les r\\u00e9seaux de grottes. Nous proposons ici une approche multim\\u00e9thodologique ax\\u00e9e sur des investigations sur le terrain, des exp\\u00e9riences de transport s\\u00e9dimentaire et la datation par enfouissement \\u00e0 l'aide de nucl\\u00e9ides cosmog\\u00e9niques afin de d\\u00e9terminer comment et quand ces clastes ont \\u00e9t\\u00e9 transport\\u00e9s.\\n<br \/>\\n<br \/>\\nDes relev\\u00e9s g\\u00e9omorphologiques d\\u00e9taill\\u00e9s fourniront des informations sur l'\\u00e9volution sp\\u00e9l\\u00e9og\\u00e9n\\u00e9tique et le contexte s\\u00e9dimentaire afin de comprendre l'histoire du transport des clastes individuels \\u00e0 l'int\\u00e9rieur des syst\\u00e8mes de grottes \\u00e0 plusieurs niveaux. Notre interpr\\u00e9tation s'appuiera sur des exp\\u00e9riences de surveillance in situ visant \\u00e0 d\\u00e9terminer la contrainte de cisaillement critique n\\u00e9cessaire \\u00e0 la remobilisation des clastes dans un environnement cavernicole complexe. Nous utiliserons la datation par enfouissement 10Be\\\/26Al pour d\\u00e9terminer quand les s\\u00e9diments de la grotte se sont d\\u00e9pos\\u00e9s. Cette technique est principalement connue dans le cadre d'\\u00e9tudes anthropologiques et est couramment utilis\\u00e9e pour d\\u00e9terminer les taux d'incision fluviale. Notre proposition consiste toutefois \\u00e0 l'appliquer pour la premi\\u00e8re fois \\u00e0 la reconstruction de l'\\u00e9tendue des glaciers, ce qui n'est possible qu'en raison du contraste lithologique unique entre la source des clastes et leur site de d\\u00e9p\\u00f4t. Les \\u00e2ges d'enfouissement seront compl\\u00e9t\\u00e9s par la datation OSL des s\\u00e9diments plus r\\u00e9cents associ\\u00e9s au refoulement glaciaire, et la datation U\\\/Th fournira les \\u00e2ges minimaux \\u00e0 partir des sp\\u00e9l\\u00e9oth\\u00e8mes englobant les d\\u00e9p\\u00f4ts glaciaires.\\n<br \/>\\n<br \/>\\nLes \\u00e2ges absolus obtenus dans le cadre de ce projet fourniront des informations fondamentales et actuellement inexistantes sur le moment o\\u00f9 les glaciers des Alpes \\u00e9taient suffisamment importants pour envahir et m\\u00eame recouvrir les montagnes du Jura. Nos donn\\u00e9es pr\\u00e9liminaires sugg\\u00e8rent que cela a pu se produire non seulement au Pl\\u00e9istoc\\u00e8ne moyen, mais aussi au Pl\\u00e9istoc\\u00e8ne inf\\u00e9rieur, pour lequel il n'existe aucune cartographie des affleurements dans le Jura. Est-ce parce que les glaciers ne sont pas all\\u00e9s aussi loin ou parce que les s\\u00e9diments ont \\u00e9t\\u00e9 \\u00e9rod\\u00e9s par la suite lors de glaciations plus r\\u00e9centes ? Quoi qu'il en soit, notre projet donnera acc\\u00e8s \\u00e0 des archives inexploit\\u00e9es, pr\\u00e9serv\\u00e9es de mani\\u00e8re unique dans les s\\u00e9diments des grottes, et, en les comparant avec la chronologie connue du Deckenschotter, contribuera de mani\\u00e8re significative \\u00e0 d\\u00e9terminer quand les premi\\u00e8res grandes glaciations alpines ont eu lieu. The record of such glaciations is thus mainly found in sediments of overdeepened valleys and can only be accessed through complex coring campaigns. Some of these sediments could be dated with luminescence techniques back to c. 200 ka but the age of the deepest glacial sediments and the timing of overdeepening associated with the most extensive glaciations remains, however, completely unknown.<br \/>\\n<br \/>In this project (2024-2028) we use glacial sediments trapped in caves in the Jura Mountains to add spatiotemporal constraints major Alpine glaciations. Clastic sediments comprising of coarse sands, pebbles and cobbles from the Pennine Alps (quartzites, serpentines, diorites, etc.) entered into caves in association with glacial runoff and, thus, record when a glacier was close enough to pour outwash into the cave systems. Here, we propose a multi-method approach centered on field investigations, sediment transport experiments and burial dating with cosmogenic nuclides to constrain how and when these clasts were delivered.<br \/>\\n<span class=\\\"more-text\\\">\\n <br \/>Detailed geomorphological surveying will inform about the speleogenetic evolution and sedimentation context to understand the transport history of individual clasts inside multi-level cave systems. Our interpretation will be supported by in-situ monitoring experiments to determine the critical shear stress needed for clast remobilization in a complex cave setting. We will use 10Be\\\/26Al burial dating to determine when the sediments in the cave were deposited. This technique is mainly renowned through anthropological studies and is commonly used to determine fluvial incision rates . Our proposal is, however, first to apply it for the reconstruction of glacier extents, which is only possible because of the unique lithology contrast between the source of the clasts and their deposition site. Burial ages will be complemented by OSL dating of younger sediments associated with glacial backflooding and U\\\/Th dating will provide minimum ages from speleothems encompassing the glacial deposits.<br \/>\\n<br \/>The absolute ages produced during this project will provide fundamental and at present completely lacking information on when glaciers from the Alps were large enough to invade and even cover the Jura Mountains. Our preliminary data suggests that this may have been not only during the middle Pleistocene but also during the early Pleistocene for which there are no mapped outcrops in the Jura. Is this because glaciers did not reach that far or because the sediments were subsequently eroded during younger glaciations? Whatever, our project will give access to an untapped record uniquely preserved in the cave sediments and, by comparing with the known timing of Deckenschotter, contribute significantly to determining when the first major Alpine glaciations occurred. This data can be well integrated into ongoing research activities aiming at dating sediment cores from overdeepened valleys.\\n<br \/>\\n<br \/>\\n<span><a
