Education

The « Edu­ca­tion » sec­tor is a SISKA ser­vice dedi­ca­ted to rai­sing awa­re­ness and pas­sing on know­ledge about karst. In addi­tion to courses given at various uni­ver­si­ties (ETH Zurich, Uni Neu­châ­tel, Uni Besan­çon, Uni Vien­na, etc.), the staff work on scien­ti­fic outreach pro­jects.
Eve­ry year, SISKA orga­nises courses, lec­tures, excur­sions and work­shops on the under­ground envi­ron­ment for a varie­ty of audiences, inclu­ding school­chil­dren, aca­de­mics, govern­ment depart­ments and local resi­dents.

Through the publi­ca­tion of bro­chures, field guides and books, the edu­ca­tion sec­tor helps to shed light on and inform the public about karst and the various themes asso­cia­ted with it : under­ground water, dolines, cavi­ties, wind tur­bines in karst ter­rain, the vul­ne­ra­bi­li­ty of the under­ground envi­ron­ment, etc.

SISKA deve­lops awa­re­ness-rai­sing, scien­ti­fic media­tion and tea­ching tools, such as videos, tea­ching kits and excur­sion guides. These tools can be used by its own teams, at events, on request or with groups (classes, asso­cia­tions, work teams, pri­vate indi­vi­duals). They are also avai­lable to tea­chers and trai­ners.

SISKA orga­nises edu­ca­tio­nal excur­sions explai­ning the evo­lu­tion of the land­scape, under­ground water flows, geo­lo­gy and karst bio­topes. As part of these excur­sions, small groups can visit a cave, which is a sen­si­tive place. Some excur­sions are orga­ni­sed on a regu­lar basis, others on an ad hoc basis. On request, we can orga­nise excur­sions to suit your wishes. We look for­ward to hea­ring from you !
